This year marks the 31st anniversary of The Desmond Project, a one-of-a-kind partnership between Great Valley High School and The Desmond Hotel Malvern, a DoubleTree by Hilton. Recognized as the only program of its kind in the nation, it gives high school students the rare opportunity to gain hands-on, real-world business experience while still in school.

Since its founding, approximately 1,475 students have participated in the program, collectively raising more than $600,000 for scholarships and charitable causes. Over time, signature events like the Senior Citizens’ Luncheon and the Student Achievers’ Banquet - both entirely planned and executed by students - have become cherished traditions within the Great Valley community.

At its core, The Desmond Project is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional experience. Through this accredited elective course, students collaborate with teachers and hotel professionals to develop essential skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. From marketing and fundraising to event planning and food preparation, students take on real responsibilities that mirror the demands of the business world.

The program has earned recognition for its impact, including honors from the Youth Mentoring Partnership for its multi-level mentorship model and the Main Line Chamber of Commerce for its community philanthropy.

Now entering its fourth decade, The Desmond Project continues to shape future leaders by providing meaningful experiences that prepare students for success beyond graduation - all while strengthening ties within the local community.
